Prosthodontics is a branch of dentistry which primarily deals with replacing lost teeth with prosthetic restorations. Every lost tooth should be replaced as soon as possible because, otherwise, negative changes develop which affect the neighbouring teeth, the opposing teeth in the other jaw and even the jaw joint. Another very common reason for prosthetic restorations is aesthetic defects of the existing teeth (colour, shape or position of the teeth).
Prosthetic restorations are divided into two groups: fixed and removable restorations. Fixed restorations (crowns and bridges) are fixed in the mouth and the patient does not need to remove them after placement, while removable restorations (full dentures, Visil dentures) can and should be removed by the patient every day to maintain the hygiene of the mouth and the denture.
